An Update on the Quest Worker Bill - Immigration in Utah

Update on the Quest Worker Bill - Immigration in UtahUtah calls Supreme Court ruling a win. This has been a long battle for those of you who have been watching and waiting for an outcome to see if Utah was going to mimic Arizona’s laws. Utah passed provisions to the guest-worker program and is now allowing undocumented immigrants to receive in-state tuition for furthering Education. This is enabling those who have come to America from other countries from Refugee camps of war, Natural Disaster areas i.e. Japan, Sir Lanka, and Haiti etc. for those who have come through such traumatic events as stated above it is a huge effort and a sense of self worth to get the work and education so that they can retain some sense of dignity and honor in taking care of themselves. Some of those around the world may not look on this lightly, even here in America. But understand this, A human being has never gained much in life ‘As the big picture’ goes by taken away another’s dignity!

I realize allot of other countries are also looking at how the American Government will settle this in the times to come and that there is some thinking that this ‘Immigration Law’ singles out Hispanics, Latino tribe. I, as a First Generational Lady in the America’s here would like to tell the world. Mexico signed ‘The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo has had implications not only for relations between the two countries but also for international law’.

This law is supposed to give the families who live and work here civil rights, there are some who have lived here for generations and even today have had to deal with these continued ridicules from even co-workers and so have their children. Some of those of the Latino Tribe were from Guatemala while I lived in California and so great was their torment during the year of 2008 with new regulations on Latino’s and the way others treated them that they realized while they were working, papered, held a job both mother and father of the household that they could go home and not deal with the daily disparaging remarks and slandering. This has been along issue between America and Mexico as it seems there were a bit of loop holes in the treaty.

Mind you I am not implementing in any sense of the word that America should go even more in debt than that which she already is. I tend to be more understanding in this issue than some of those ‘Americans’ as I also am new to this country, However, I have papers and follow the Law. I do believe, that once the person is here going to school and work that they should also be respectful and get what papers are necessary to stay in the country and continue to be allowed the privilege of school and work.

Utah is still working on implementing this new program. It is evident however, in each new Orientation of new classes that start at my college that I am attending I see more and more immigrants from all over the world. So happy to say some programs are working, especially for those of you who have family in these states it has been a grueling task to see the events unfold.
