24th December 2012 - Prime Minister addressed the Nation

After a long delay itself, the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh addressed the media, in concern to the Jyoti Singh Pandey rape case. Jyoti was alive at that time, and was hospitalized. There had been no satisfactoryl response from government till 8 days, but finally as the public was getting out of control, Pm appeared in media. PM says anger and anguish is justified. He promised that Government will “examine without delay all aspects concerning safety of women and children and punishment to those who commit these monstrous crimes”.

Helpline setup for women

A three number helpline number which is 181 has been setup for women, so that in situations of emergency they can dial it and the needed help can be provided. It has also been told that complaint boxes have been installed buy the police department outside colleges as safety measures.

22th December 2012 - Steps for safer travel

The required action was taken against the transporter whose bus was involved in the crime.
Improvements were made in the public transport system by increasing night services of buses.
The suggestion of intsalling GPS  has been made so that they can be tracked to beon their route.
To be ensured that all personnel deployed on public transport must carry on their identification badges.

24th December.2012 -  Home Minister appealed to the protectors

The Home Minister of Indian too appeared on the same day through tv channels and newspapers appealing to the public for returning to their homes, as he claimed that firm actions have been taken by the government in the matter.

24th December 2012 - Fast Track Hearing

The Union Home Minister of India and Chief Minister of Delhi Chief Justice, Delhi High Court on 24th for starting fast track hearing in the Jyoti Singh Pandey gang-rape case. Along with that victim to be given best possible medical care.

24th December 2012 - Committee of Three Eminent Jurists Constituted

Justice Verma Committee was made that started functioning to look for possible amendments that could be made to the criminal law for the quicker trial and enhanced punishment for criminals, accused of committing sexual assault of extreme nature against women.
                      The committee have intimated to all, to send the responses for what they feel could be the possible punishments for the offence of rape and other crimesat at justice.verma@nic.in or through fax at 011-23092675 on or beofore January 05, 2013.
     A three eminent jurists committee was constituted by the Government to review the existing laws and suggest suitable changes. This Committee is headed by Shri Justice (Retd.) J.S.Verma, former Chief Justice of India, Smt. Justice (Retd.) Leila Seth, Former Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh and Shri Gopal Subramaniam, Former Solicitor General of India. The Committee was oredered to submit their report within 30 days.

Police came into action

A Delhi Court took action against erring policemen, as they couldn't even rightly tell the number of PCR vans that visited the spot during the incident. The patrolling by police vans/ motorcycles of the routes that are usually taken by families and women during night time has been started.

29th December 2012 - Jyoti Singh Pandey died in Singapore

Miss Jyoti Singh Pandey (Damini) died on December 29th in a specialist hospital in Singapore after 13 days  of struggle. She was so much severely damaged that her intestine had to be removed in a surgery, but still she could not be saved. [ Read More..]

Badri Singh Pandey appeared in Media and gave the permission to use the real name of her daughter for reporting. He said that, "I am proud of her. Revealing her name will give courage to other women who have survived these attacks".


Asaram Bapu gave controversial statement Against Jyoti Singh Pandey

The religious and spiritual guru Asaram Bapu, gave a controversial statement in one of religious meeting against the Delhi Rape Case victim jyoti Singh Pandey, calling her equally responsible for her rape. 14th January 2013 - Lawyers Appeared for Delhi Gang Rape Accused

The Delhi Lawyers claim that their clients are innocent of the murder, rape and kidnapping charges they face. Advocate Ajay Prakash Singh from Delhi represents accused Vinay Sharma, a 20-year-old who is a  gym assistant, and accused Akshay Kumar, a 28-year-old bus cleaner, whereas Advocate M.L.Sharma represents Mukesh Singh, 26, who is alleged to have drove the bus on the night of Dec.16 2012.
       The defence lawyers demanded the translation of 1000 pages of challan presented by the police in court, stating that the accused are illiterate and cannot read English.

After more than a month of the death of the Delhi moving bus gang rape victim, the Justice Verma committee have submitted their recommendations for the new strict Anti-Rape laws. While submitting his report, Justice Verma said,"This is just the beginning of real change and I am sure it will pick up momentum". The death of the delhi brave heart have shacked the roots of the nation. "We recieved tremendous support from everyone. It is not a movement but a spontaneous show of pent-up anger amongst the youth", said Justice Verma, former CJI. It is worth noting that they have got 80,000 questions from various quarters.

11th March 2013 - Ram Singh Committed Suicide - Delhi Gang Rape Main Accused, Mangelal Singh (father) suspects it to be a Murder

The main accused of the Delhi Gang Rape (Jyoti Singh Pandey) Case, Ram Singh is said to have committed suicide this Monday morning that is 11th March, 2013. Ram Singh who was facing trial in a special court in Delhi was currently in Judicial Custody in the Tihar Jail. This suicide have raised questions on the security of the Tihar jail. 13 September, 2013 - Delhi Gang Rape : Four accused (Mukesh Singh, Akshay Thakur, Vinay Sharma and Pawan Gupta) sentenced to Death penalty by Fast Track Court

After a nine-month-long trial, all the four convicts in December 16 gangrape and murder case were awarded death penalty by Delhi fast track court on Friday 13th September, 2013.   6. it is really sad to know that our judicial system cant even give punishment to those who are actually proved accused. why we are waiting. we need change, whole system, they should be given punishment within a short time.

    Though people seem to have forgotten the incident.Please dont forget about that innocent gal, who lost her life for nothing.

  7. only punishment for six accused is death penalty.no evidence and proof is required to held them guilty.Everything is so obvious.Why delay.....?

  8. @Anonymous It's really sad, that inspite of the clear circumstantial evidences available in the Delhi Gang rape case, our system is taking so much time. There should be definitely something that is faster that than the speedy trial pattern itself. Looking forward to the effects of Jutice Verma report.
